Happy Holidays!

It is that time of the year again. The countdown to X-MAS has begun. The frantic search for the perfect gift, the never-ending to do list before the turn of the year, the high expectations wanting this to be the most enjoyable time of the year and the sheer pressure to please everyone near and dear as well as trying to get everything done in time for the holidays are taking its toll. What better thing to do than look at it the yogic way by letting go of expectations, being consciously present in the moment and most of all take care of and be kind to yourself and let the rest follow…because it will.

When things get too hectic over the next few weeks here is a simple way to deal with any situation:

If possible close your eyes then take a few deep breaths– deep belly breaths in and out of your nose, and let your body and mind relax.

Often we cause stress to ourselves simply by expecting too much from ourselves. So letting go of those expectations can help a great deal to defuse the feeling of stress.

Once you are breathing deep and calmly try repeating a mantra – such as “I am calm, peaceful and strong” or anything suited to the situation – silently in your mind 5-10 times whilst continuing to breathe.

Once you feel yourself calmer break the tasks at hand into smaller, easy achievable goals and in your mind make a plan of action. Then go for it in a calm and conscious manner making sure you reward yourself with something that brings you pleasure once you have accomplished your tasks.

Have a hot relaxing bath, snuggle into a cosy blanket with your favourite cup of tea, find a quiet place to read the book you have wanted to start for a long time, roll out your mat for a few rounds of Sun Salutations…you get the idea. Find pleasure in the smaller things in life. Things that nourish your soul, take care of your body and mind and make you feel alive.

Most of all enjoy the holiday season!
